Mercedes Benz Radio System Issues and Resolutions

Are you having trouble with a non-working radio on your Mercedes-Benz?
We have listed down common issues with the Mercedes-Benz COMAND system, including problems with
– the main unit
-radio stuck on Mercedes-Benz logo
-radio shuts off randomly, turns on and then off
-radio powers on but there is no sound
-COMAND will freeze
-radio panel doesn’t turn on, and;
-Audio Gateway drains the car battery

How to Fix Issues with the COMAND System

The most common solution to fix any of these issues is to try to perform a soft reset of the COMAND unit. For you to do that, you will need to remove the fuses for the CD Changer, COMAND/ NAV / DVD Player / Radio, Audio Gateway AGW, and the Voice Unit if it is equipped with one, for at least 10 minutes. Doing a soft reset for these systems will force the head unit to rest. This normally restores the systems to working order. Chances are the symptoms may return. If this happens repeatedly, a professional Mercedes Benz repair technician or mechanic can help check any updates for your COMAND / navigation unit.

How to perform a soft reset of the COMAND / NAV Radio System

  1. Find the fuse box under the dashboard. Pry the side cover, look for fuse 26 and 28 and remove both fuses.

  1. The second fuse box may be on the left side of the trunk. Locate and remove fuse 6.

  1. Take out the key from the ignition and don’t turn on the car for at least 15 minutes.
